I was recently involved in a project with Plan C Manchester. Plan C is a national anti-capitalist organisation founded as a response to the perceived limits of the post-crisis British Left, and is committed to ongoing experimentation to find the necessary forms of collective organisation required to build a world beyond capitalism. Where we have 'Plan A' (neoliberalism, austerity and 'business as usual') and 'Plan B' (Keynesianism and nostalgia for the social-democratic state), in Plan C we argue for more radical solutions to the crisis based on notions of communism and the commons. The project involved releasing a demand a day for the twelve working weeks in the lead-up to the UK General Elections (May 7th). The demands were inspired by campaigns past and present - some written by us, some authored by others - and each aimed to contribute to, and amplify, a parallel, plural, radical left political debate to that of the mainstream discourse that dominates the conversation. The demands, I think, represent a direct affront to - what John Holloway might call a potential 'crack' within - the current post-political popularity contest, where only the party that proves toughest in dealing with the deficit can ever win.
